Can I get a weather forecast for a Google Maps route?

Yes. In the Express wizard, select the Google Maps tab and paste your Google Maps directions URL. WeatherGPX converts it to a route and fetches the forecast for each point, timed to your estimated arrival. On desktop, copy the URL from the address bar. On mobile, tap Share in Google Maps and paste the link directly — no extra steps needed.

How does WeatherGPX show weather along a route?

WeatherGPX calculates your estimated arrival time at each point along the route, based on your departure time and travel speed. It then fetches the hourly forecast from Open-Meteo for that exact time and location — so you see the weather you will actually encounter, not just the weather at your starting point.

Yes. The free plan gives 5 weather points along your route and 4 area weather points, with no account required. The subscriber plan (€1.50/month or €12/year) adds 25 route points, up to 20 area points, and cloud sync across all your devices.

How far in advance can I plan a trip with WeatherGPX?

Up to 16 days ahead. WeatherGPX uses Open-Meteo forecasts, which cover a window from 2 days in the past to 16 days in the future. Points with estimated arrivals outside that range will show no weather data.

Does WeatherGPX work without a GPX file?

Yes. Enable Area mode in the Weather panel to get current weather for any location on the map — no route needed. You can also tap any point on the map for an instant weather snapshot at that exact location.

Which apps can I export GPX files from?

WeatherGPX works with GPX files from Komoot, Strava, Garmin Connect, Calimoto, 68°, Wikiloc, AllTrails, and most other GPS or navigation apps. Both track files and route files are supported.

Why is there a paid plan? Weather forecasts and cloud storage have real costs. Subscribing covers them , and directly supports the development of WeatherGPX, which is built and maintained by one person.

A personal project

WeatherGPX was built by an independent hiker and biker who ran into the same problem too many times: standing in the middle of nowhere, unsure whether to push on or turn back, with no real sense of what the weather was doing further along the route. The classic forecast, a city, a single point, a vague icon, just doesn't cut it when you're off-road and the next pass is two hours away.

WeatherGPX is free to use. Your tracks, weather data and map tiles are stored on your device, even without a connection you can access what you loaded before heading out. With a subscription, everything syncs to the cloud across all your devices.
